In the past, diabetes treatments have focused on managing symptoms and changing lifestyle, but these have failed to address the issue that diabetes stems from: metabolic failure.
Pulsatile Insulin Infusion (PII) therapy approaches diabetes and neuropathy treatment in a restorative way. Instead of addressing only symptoms, PII seeks to treat the primary cause of metabolic disorders.
Administering insulin as a hormone rather than a drug through infusion therapy, this process mimics normal glucose metabolism and can decrease insulin resistance.
With customized treatment plans to fit each patient, this infusion therapy has the potential to restore, repair, and even regenerate tissues and organs damaged by metabolic disorders.
If you have experienced burning tingling nerve pain, loss of sensation or numbness, other neuropathy symptoms or poorly managed diabetes, PII could be right for you. Book an initial consultation appointment with Ben Boyer, FNP, to discuss treatment options.
Schedule ConsultationTalk to your healthcare provider. All of our providers at the Wind Clinic and the Foot and Ankle Center are knowledgeable about PII treatments and can help you make the decision if this is the right step for you. They would then refer you to meet with Ben Boyer, FNP, who manages our infusion therapy.
The first consultation visit with Ben is typically 60 minutes. You should come prepared to review your medical history and records, as well as have blood work done. This primary step in the treatment process is essential to creating a customized care plan.
There are many insurance plans that cover this treatment. The best initial step is to discuss this with your Wind Clinic or Foot and Ankle Center medical provider; they may ask you to reach out to your insurance regarding your personal plan’s coverage options.
After initial consultation visits, the typical PII patient schedules weekly infusions lasting about 90 minutes, with these beginning treatments typically spanning 12 weeks. The goal, with time, is to navigate each patient into a "maintenance" phase, where treatments are administered only once every 4-6 weeks. This takes time and every patient is different; remember– this is a treatment, not a cure to metabolic disorders and diabetes. Unfortunately no cure yet exists, but with PII treatment our clinic has seen great success in lowering A1C levels, improving neuropathy symptoms, and controlling other diabetic symptoms.
